Lacemaking Workshop
Instructors: Colonial Lacemakers from Williamsburg, VA
Saturday, July 12
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Join the Colonial Lacemakers on Saturday, July 12 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM for a Lacemaking Workshop at Arts on Main!
This workshop will begin with a short talk about a group of laces popular in the 19th century that were made by creating small designs and adding them to the background net. These were expensive and were called part laces. The workshop will then use beginning lace-making stitches using cotton thread, bobbins, and a lacemaker’s pillow to make a gold tassel to take home with them.
All supplies will be provided by the instructor. Bring a friend and come learn the art of lacemaking!

COLONIAL LACEMAKERS
“We are members of a local lace group called the Colonial Lacemakers which is part of a larger group, Chesapeake Regional Lace Guild (CRLG) that takes in DC, VA and MD, - I'm VP of the that. CRLG is in turn part of International Organization of Lace, Inc. (I.O.L.I.) which includes the US and Canada. IOLI has annual conventions - a different state each year. This year it was in Nevada. CRLG has annual Fall and Spring Lace Days with guest speakers and classes. This Fall the speaker and teacher for the class is coming from Belgium. Our group celebrated International Lace Day at the Williamsburg Library this year (2nd photo) by inviting locals to come and try their hand at lace-making.”
