Mixed Media Sculpture
Saturday, March 23
11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Join Robyn Raines on Saturday, March 23 from 11:00AM - 4:00PM for a Mixed Media Sculpture Workshop at Arts on Main!
Participants in this workshop are asked to bring 10 objects that can fit into a backpack. Using those objects plus a variety of provided “treasures,” students will enjoy a day of creating sculpture! Concepts such as connections, texture, focal points, stability, longevity, and other elements involved in developing mixed media sculpture will be explored. Students will walk away with new brainstorming techniques as well as the information and skills needed to create sculpture using a variety of materials.
This program has been organized by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and is funded, in part, by the Paul Mellon Endowment and the Jean Stafford Camp Memorial Fund.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
A southwest Virginia native, Robyn moved back to the region after completing her BFA in textile design from Moore College of Art & Design (Philadelphia); working for Betsey Johnson, New York fashion designer; and completing the Core Fellow Program at the Penland School of Crafts (NC). In 2017, she completed her Master’s degree in Natural Resources from Virginia Tech's Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability. Robyn followed a path of full-time leadership roles in both the art and human service non-profit sector, until 2020 when she decided to refocus. She owns Whitetop Yoga in Abingdon (VA), where she is excited to support gratitude, mindfulness, and intention with the local community and visitors to the region. She loves balancing her space and time between her yoga and art studios, as well as farming and traveling.
